FOFS Official Selections | Shorts Programme with Q&A
Join us at Cineplex’s Scotiabank Theatre for this year’s Opening Night Screening presenting two shorts film followed by the Festival’s first ever feature film. The screening will be followed by a filmmaker Q&A moderated by Aashna Thakkar.
Rebeccah Love’s Eve Parade, Rebeca Ortiz’s Abuela, and Haya Waseem’s Quickening are three GTA (Greater Toronto Area) set stories, observing distinct intersectionalities of experience from the perspective of women during very different stages in their lives. These are works that seek to articulate a marginal subjectivity: discerning the white, settler-state hegemony of Canada; interrogating the psycho-affective roles of assimilation with reference to dynamics of race and mental health.
